Where tension is being felt
We start by talking through where you notice tightness or discomfort, and how it tends to show up across your neck, shoulders, and upper back.
Focused care for neck, shoulder and upper-back tension, restricted movement, and overworked muscles.
Neck, shoulder, and upper-back discomfort can show up in many different ways. This is not a checklist or a diagnosis — just common experiences clients describe before booking focused upper-body work.
The examples above describe common experiences and are not a diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms.
The session is adapted to what you are experiencing that day. Rather than following a predetermined massage routine, I consider what your body is telling you and shape the work around it. Depending on what you describe and what feels comfortable to you, I may consider:
We start by talking through where you notice tightness or discomfort, and how it tends to show up across your neck, shoulders, and upper back.
If turning your neck or moving your shoulders feels restricted, the session can be shaped around supporting more comfortable, easier movement.
Tension rarely stays in one muscle. I look at how the neck, shoulders, upper back, chest, and surrounding areas are working together.
Desk work, driving, lifting, styling, training, and caring for others can all contribute to muscular tension. We consider what may be feeding it.
Pressure and technique are chosen with your input. Focused does not mean forceful — we find what feels productive to you and adjust from there.
Each session is individualized to what your body needs that day rather than following a predetermined massage routine.
Treatment is individualized rather than based on a predetermined massage routine. Your session is built around your concerns, your comfort, and your goals — not a template.
Depending on your needs, therapeutic work may include areas such as those listed below. This is educational and kept within the scope of massage therapy. Massage does not correct structural abnormalities or medically diagnose muscular dysfunction.
Focused work through the muscles of the neck that often hold tension from posture, screen time, and stress.
The tops of the shoulders, where many people carry the weight of a long day and feel tension build first.
The muscles that lift the shoulder blade — common contributors to neck stiffness and restricted, comfortable turning.
The musculature between the shoulder blades that can feel tight or achy, especially with rounded posture and desk work.
Supportive work around the shoulder where repetitive activity and overhead movement can leave muscles feeling overworked.
When appropriate, gentle work through the chest can support more open, comfortable posture through the shoulders and upper back.
Work around and beneath the shoulder blade, where tension and restricted movement often settle together.
The interconnected muscles and fascia that contribute to tension and restricted movement throughout the upper body.
Tension patterns do not always stay in one area. Some clients experience jaw, head, neck, and shoulder tension together — the muscles across these regions share a great deal of daily work, and when one area is holding tightness, nearby muscles often feel it as well.
If jaw tension, clenching, facial tension, or recurring headaches are also part of what you are experiencing, my TMJ-focused work may be a better starting point.
Focused massage can still be calming and restorative. While the session is shaped around your neck, shoulder, and upper-back concerns, it does not have to feel clinical. Sessions may incorporate supportive positioning, heat, relaxation techniques, and the Oakworks SoVi vibracoustic system when appropriate.
Sessions take place in a private treatment setting and are tailored to what you are experiencing that day rather than following a one-size-fits-all routine.
Positioning, pressure, pacing, and treatment choices are adjusted throughout the session with comfort, communication, and therapeutic goals in mind.
When appropriate, the Oakworks SoVi system may be incorporated to combine gentle vibration, sound, and warmth as part of a more immersive restorative experience.
Even when the session is focused on pain, tension, mobility, or recovery, the environment is intentionally designed to help the body feel supported and less physically wound up.
Massage therapy and the SoVi system do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition.
A simple, unhurried process built around your comfort and what your body needs that day.
New clients begin with a complimentary video consultation to discuss what is going on and determine whether my approach is an appropriate fit for what you are experiencing.
The session is customized according to your concerns, comfort, goals, and how your body responds to the work. Pressure and technique are adjusted throughout.
When helpful, I may offer appropriate self-care or movement suggestions within my professional scope. This is not physical therapy, chiropractic care, or medical rehabilitation.

Massage therapy can be a helpful part of a broader approach to muscular tension and discomfort, but it is not a substitute for medical evaluation. New, severe, unexplained, or worsening symptoms should be evaluated by an appropriate healthcare provider. If you are unsure whether this session is right for you, just ask before booking and we will figure it out together.
